From a practical and methodological standpoint, it is a time consuming process to develop a therapy for alcoholism and addiction for humans’ coz, it is difficult to develop an experimental animal model that poses same post behavioural effects as that  of humans after administering alcoholic and addictive substances.  However this article presents a solution to it.Addictive behavior of humans can be predicted by the following validities of animal models.

  • Constructive validity in which biological phenomenon are measured.
  • Etiological validity in which cause of disorder or etiology is measured.
  • Face validity in which only superficial resemblances are measured.
  • Convergent validity in which multiple animal models are studied.
  • Discriminant validity in which social behavioral aspects are studied.

After considering above points it can be assured that, studies on single animal model can never rebuild the results required. It can be explained by the examples that are laid below.

In vertebrates HPA axis controls the stress related mechanisms. But in invertebrates HPA axis is absent. So, invertebrates cannot portray all the behaviors shown by Humans.
Similar molecular mechanisms are observed in Human and Mollusks. Rats show many physiological similarities with that of humans. So it is better to study different animals for different mechanisms.

Hence it can be concluded that research on multiple animal models produces successful results which in-turn shows dramatic improvements in human health and well being, and it promises many more.
